, president obama made his outreach speech to the muslim world. basically said that he understood the muslim world because of his background, better than any previous president. things were going to change, he hoped. he, will open hand if it isn't met with a clinched fist. he extended a olive branch to the muslim world. and it turns out now that that was not -- they didn't care. i mean, it sounded good at the moment and it sounded like it was the dawn of a new day, and it sounded hopeful. but it was apparently naive because, as we have learned now, in retrospect, they don't really care hot president of the united states is. >> exactly it was predicated on a falsehood. the falsehood was they hate us because we have been mean to them or wronged them in some way. if we are only nice and show a little empathy and have conversations with them they will like us and stop attacking us. it turned out to be ludicrous. totally. >> wrong. charles krauthammer has thoughts on what went wrong. >> we have this unprecedented shutting of embassies. remember, there is no need to shut down u.s. embassies in chr

are some examples of things that the president has done. we will start with obama irca. you know, he has made some of these mandates delayed because they didn't think that they could work out the kinks in time for october 1st. so, without the authorization of congress, he has done many of these things that we'll outline for you. >> so he has changed the healthcare law without congressional approval, that is, of course, suspending the penalties for corporations that don't play along. he has ordered new cell phone taxes to pay for pet program installing wi-fi in schools. >> he is overruling congress on the drug war sentencing. we heard from attorney general eric holder on that. so changing the sentencing for the amount of drugs seized during operations. those go against laws that are already on the books. >> alisyn: then you know he did the dream act where he basically gave amnesty to young, illegal immigrants who were brought here through no fault of their own before that they were 18 years old, so he did that through the dream act. you any, lots of people are saying he is doing an end ru

could be bigger and much worse than it was ten years ago today. here's president obama during the campaign. >> i said we'd refocus on the people who actually attacked us on 9/11, and today al qaeda is on the run and osama bin laden is dead. >>steve: exactly. it was very catchy, a bumper sticker, but now fast forward, al qaeda on the run? we're on the run over there. >>tucker: you wonder if they're drawing the right lesson from benghazi. it seems to me the real lesson is don't lie and don't stage a cover up. don't staeupbl your policy based -- don't stage your policy based on the last war. >>steve: the thing about benghazi, it was in the midst of a campaign. it was two months until big vote. they wanted to make sure everybody felt everything was a. okay. things were not a-okay over there and today is exhibit a. >>gretchen: another big story? >>tucker: alex rodriguez is hours away from learning if he will be suspended for the upcoming season. he is still expected to be in the lineup for tonight's game against the chicago white sox. heather nauert is live with the latest. >> that

out for you, mr. obama? here's the problem. they're lying to themselves, they've been lying to us. this global warning is nothing more than evidence of the o-team's a businebysmal failure protection of america. and that report on the two leaders in yemen. remember, september is the 16th anniversary of the bombings in kenya and tanzania. anniversaries matter to these people, sean. this crowd didn't take that heed back on september 11. it means more suicide bombers, and the o-team can't even name the enemy radical islam. >> colonel, i've spoken to a number of senators and a number of congress men, and they say this threat is real. they're planning a big event as 9/11. you have a lot of sources. what are they telling you? >> you consider in the chatter that the lesson learned of benghazi was learned by the jih jihadis because they perceive us to be weak, they know that talk is cheap, they know that nothing happened that perpetrated the attacks that killed the u.s. ambassador and three other americans in benghazi. this intercept preceded the propaganda videos that were released by zaw

too much information was made public in the warning by the obama administration and they are upset about it and that could hurt future efforts to break up potential terrorist plots. just a head at 1:30 we'll talk to ralph peters, what is it about the president's warning that is causing serious concern. >> a suspect behind bars at this hour, held on $1 million bail after a deadly hit and run in venice beach, california this weekend. the surveillance video shoes the suspect getting out of the sports car and surveying the sports car and gets in and out and goes back several times. and the final time he takes off and blows in the crowd. the witnesses recall a horr foying scene. >> this guy had an attempt to create mayhem and went straight down the boardwalk 60 miles per hour. >> he speed up and purposely was swerving back and forth it run over as many people as he could. >> people were flying everywhere and it looked like something out of a movie. >> in california, they join us with the latest, will? >> jamie, there were thousands of people down here on saturday when that crowd raced o

talk about yesterday. bob bauer, the obama campaign lawyer, is the one who instituted this at the fecfec staff went to lois learner, lois lane lerner. he ended up as the irs chief counsel. on the stuff on the nsa -- this is part of the same attack on american democracy, we have people getting up here with these canards saying, look at our program, we got all this information. it had nothing do do with the 300 millions americans whose records they're taking. the nsa is supposed to be listening in yemen to people talking to each other and the chatter. but you may believe, and i suppose we should give the government the benefit of the doubt, but remember what they're also trying to knock off the air. the fact that the dea is sharing the information and using it with informant and trying to cover that up. the fact that mr. brennan who left the white house and went over to the cia and is conducting, we found out this week, nondisclosure agreements and also polygraphing members of this vast number of cia agents who are on the ground, many of whom may have been casualties but

? >> shepard, late today a spokesman traveling with the president said mr. obama is determined to strike the right balance between protecting security and protecting the privacy of americans. but the fact that the nation's most secretive spy agency briefed reporters today, also suggests mr. obama is desperate to rebuild public confidence in it. the nsa says most of the improper data collection involved cell phones that had had been tracking overseas whose owners brought them back into the u.s. without the agency realizing it but in one instance, the nsa intended to track phones in egypt, country code 20 and the computer read area code 202. that's washington, d.c. martin gellman broke the story. >> so it's an innocent mistake. it demonstrates however, the ease of which the nsa either by accidental or can pull in volumes of communications. >> mistakes reflect a tiny fraction of their operations but they say they take every mistake seriously. shepard? >> shepard: wendell goler from martha's vineyard tonight. more people think that the nsa surveillance program will hurt americans than it wil

think there's also going to be a lot of what president obama called glitches. jenna: it's interesting to see how different cities may or may not be using the health care exchange. there's been reports out of detroit and chicago that these cities in deep financial trouble may with looking -- may be looking to push some retirees into the health care exchanges instead of having to pay for health care benefits until they're the age of 65 or so, michael. if that happens and, again, it's just an idea, but if health care becomes entrenched in that way because of decisions made by politicians at a local level, how does that influence the political debate? >> i think one of the ways is that if cities, cities with big payrolls like shaq -- like chicago dump their employees on the health care exchanges, this program is going to end up costing more than has been projected, because those assumptions were baked into the bill. one of the things you have to realize about this bill is that even its backers admit that it was not the ideal piece of legislation they wanted. that's because after the victo
